Academica reward Domingos Paciencia with contract extension

Coach of the Coimbra club to stay on next season

Academica have made a move to bring stability within the club as the board decided to prolong head coach Domingos Paciencia’s contract for an additional season.

The Portuguese tactician has been the club’s bench boss since the beginning of the current campaign and will now stay on for one more year. Paciencia has led the club to safety in Portugal’s top flight and was rewarded with an extension for his accomplishment.

The former Uniao de Leiria coach was pleased with the club’s gesture and wanted to thank them for their trust and support. “It’s a good contract. It allows me the possibility to work with the same team for a second year, as I approach my third year as a professional coach,” said the former FC Porto and Portugal striker.

“This says that people like me and are happy with what I am doing. This is very good and I will make sure that those same people do not feel that they were cheated for supporting me.”

Club president, Jose Eduardo Simoes, also expressed his delight with the club’s decision to extend Paciencia’s affiliation with the club.

“These players had practically no experience in the Bwin Liga and now that we have reached the end of the season, they are players who other clubs are interested in. This situation arose because their capabilities were maximised by the coaching staff, which was led by Domingos Paciencia.”
