Dady winner adds to Aves misery
Aves 0-1 Belenenses
Belenenses obtained their first victory on their travels as Aves were beaten for the fourth time in four home matches in their debut season in the top flight.
A poor game had few moments of interest throughout. Aves’ wretched luck continued as goalkeeper Mota was forced off injured on the hour mark.
Practically the first job his replacement Paulo Musse had to do was to pick the ball out of the net as Cape Verdean striker Dady pounced to put Belenenses into the lead in the 65th mintue.
Aves responded with a fine effort from William, but once again luck was not on their side as the ball bounced off the bar.
With just two points from their opening eight matches, Aves fall to the bottom of the table and even at this early stage of the season it looks a tall order to avoid relegation.
Aves coach, Neca:
“I’m proud of the way my team worked, although they were not rewarded with the three points. We have to throw off the ghost of defeat. We are showing a lot of anxiety, which is normal for a team that desperately wants victory.”
Jorge Jesus, Setubal coach:
“We knew that our opponents were a strong team at home and in the last third of the pitch because they have fast players who make good diagonal runs. We tried not to allow them space, and we played a good tactical match. We were just winners.”
