Deco hints at joining Scolari and Ronaldinho at Chelsea
Portugal midfield maestro to decide future after Euro 2008
While refusing to commit himself as to his immediate future, Portuguese midfielder Deco has suggested that he could be joining his current international coach, Luiz Felipe Scolari, at Chelsea.
The Barcelona playmaker also admitted he would like to resume his partnership with Brazilian midfield partner, Ronaldinho, who he believes can rediscover the form that made him the world’s best player.
Speaking in Switzerland while with the Portugal squad Deco said “I’ve never worked with Scolari at any club, only for the national team. He’s a great coach and has shown that he works very well.
“Without a doubt if I was with him I’d be very happy, but this isn’t a certainty yet. I haven’t spoken to the Barcelona president since I joined up with the national team.
“As for Ronaldinho, above all else he is a friend of mine. Of course I’d like to team up with him. I’m sure he is going to be one of the best players in the world again, if not the very best, but this isn’t the moment to talk about that right now.
“I’m concentrating on Portugal. We don’t know who we are going to play next, but we have to make sure we are 100 percent prepared for Thursday. Now there are not many teams to choose from – whoever we play it will be difficult.”
Portugal will face Germany in the first quarter-final, unless Austria pull off a huge shock by beating their neighbours tonight.
