Jardel hits the net as Beira-Mar retain unbeaten run
Beira-Mar 2-0 Estrela da Amadora
On the eve of his 33rd birthday Mario Jardel hit the back of the net again for Beira-Mar – his second goal in three games – to help his side to a 2-0 victory over Estrela da Amadora.
Beira-Mar started well and on 17 minutes Jardel got on the end of a Vidigal cross, but his header was easily saved by Paulo Lopes.
Seven minutes later and the Brazilian marksman slid in at the far post to knock the ball into the net with his right foot and bring a perfect end to a flowing move by Beira-Mar.
The goal only served to accentuate Beira-Mar’s dominance of the match, although on a rare attack Paulo Sergio fell in the area looking to win a penalty for Estrela, but only earned a yellow card for his troubles.
The booking would prove costly as Sergio was shown his second yellow and consequent red for throwing the ball at Jorge Vidigal shortly before the hour mark.
Beira-Mar killed the match in the 75th minute when Alcaraz, set up neatly by Wegno, made no mistake to double the home team’s lead.
The team from Aveiro twice came close to adding to their score but coach Augusto Inacio will be pleased with the solid start his newly promoted team have made.
Estrela on the other hand, without a point and without a goal, look to be in for a long hard season.
