Radiant Cardozo unable to contain excitement at Benfica move
Striker wants “to make history” at Lisbon club
Benfica’s newly acquired striker, Oscar Cardozo, is overflowing with excitement over his recent move and cannot wait to hit the pitch with his new club’s jersey.
The player, who is currently in Venezuela about to embark in the Copa America with Paraguay, spoke about his latest career move and what he intends to do when he arrives.
“I will work hard to be a winner at Benfica,” Cardozo enthused. “I want to score lots of goals, even become the highest goalscorer in the championship. In the last Argentina Clausura, I was only one goal behind the leader, Martin Palermo, and I did not play in the last game.”
“I know Benfica have a lot of fans and I want to make them all happy in exchange for their support. This will happen.”
The former Newell’s Old Boys striker has caught wind that Benfica are attempting to lure Argentinian marksman, Gonzalo Bergessio, to the club as well. Cardozo thinks he would be a great capture for the Lisbon club and is familiar with Bergessio having played against him the last two seasons.
“Bergessio is also coming to Portugal? Fantastic! I can work hard with a friend that I recognize. He is young and has shown his value in the last year. He is an excellent striker.
“We have characteristics that could compliment one another and make history at Benfica. However, I know there is Nuno Gomes and Miccoli as well.”
“It is with this spirit that I will arrive at the club. I know collectively that the club has a huge history, and I want to continue to build it with goals.”
