Juventus dash Benfica’s Miccoli hopes
Claudio Ranieri plans leading role for diminutive striker
Benfica’s hopes of securing striker, Fabrizio Miccoli, were dealt a heavy blow as new Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri admitted that he is counting on the Italian marksman for next season.
It appears that Miccoli’s fine displays for Benfica over the last two seasons have convinced Ranieri to hold on to the striker as the historical Italian club make their return to Serie A next season.
“I am counting on Miccoli for next season as all big players interest Juventus,” stated Ranieri. “Miccoli is a wonderful player and proved that during his two years at Benfica, and now I will rely on his qualities with our team.”
Miccoli still has three years left on his contract with the Old Lady and Ranieri is looking to partner the former Reggina player with the newly acquired Vincenzo Iaquinta.
“We have signed Iaquinta from Udinese and Miccoli is a striker that obviously interests us. His time spent in Portugal helped him during a phase when Juventus did not require his services, but now they do.”
