Simao proud of Atletico interest but happy to stay at Benfica

Miccoli transfer saga comes to an end

Simao

Benfica’s Simao Sabrosa has reacted to news that Atletico Madrid would be pursuing him if they fail to land Ricardo Quaresma from FC Porto.

The Rojablancos confessed yesterday through president, Enrique Cerejo that the Madrid side were looking at Simao if they should fail in their efforts to sign Ricardo Quaresma.

“I learned of the news through the media. Until now, myself or the club have not received anything, but it is something to be proud of. It depends on the proposal, but I am not expecting anything.”

“I’m fine here. If there is an offer and it is good for Benfica then anything can happen, but I am not saying that I want to leave. I’m in my own country and I have my family here.”

Asked whether he would like to end his career with Benfica, Simao stated that he would be happy to hang up his boots with the club he has been with since 2001.

“Of course, why not? I have been here for six years and they have been six very good years. I am not saying that it will end in 2012 because I still have a lot to give.”

Miccoli saga ends

In other club news, the Miccoli saga is over, with the striker joining Serie A side, Palermo. Since the season ended speculation has been rife as to where the diminutive Italian would end up, but the player himself announced his destination on the club’s website.

“I am very happy. After two very important years in my career, I have returned to Italy and to a great club. I thank everyone for the confidence they have shown in me. I am very emotional and I cannot wait to arrive at Palermo to start my new adventure.”

Miccoli’s agent, Francesco Caliandro, added that his client had been willing to return to Benfica, but Palermo’s better financial offer swayed the Italian’s final decision.
