Benfica hit with Di Maria leg fracture

Argentine ruled out of action for several weeks

Angle Di Maria

Benfica have been hit with some bad news as the club announced that they will be without the services of forward Angel Di Maria for the foreseeable future.

The club announced through their website that the midfielder has suffered a fracture to his left leg and will be forced to sit on the sidelines for the coming weeks.

The injury was first discovered after Benfica’s 2-0 defeat to Galatasaray in the Uefa Cup last week, which Di Maria featured in for the match’s entirety.

The skilful player also sat out Benfica’s 3-0 Portuguese Cup victory on Monday giving further credence that a problem was afoot.

The news will come as a blow for both club and player. Benfica looked to have a healthy squad for the first time this season and Di Maria will have to miss Argentina’s friendly against Scotland on November 19 after he was part of Diego Maradona’s inaugural squad selection or the Biancoceleste.
