Does anyone know whats going on with the international tv rights to Portugal's NT games? As of now TVI has the rights but they don't have an international channel. Are we fans outside of Portugal going to miss out on our national teams games? As of today this coming Wednesday's game against the Faroe Islands isnt being televised over seas. I've checked RTPi, Setanta, GolTV, FSC & ESPN and nothing!!! Can someone please provide us with some insite as to whats going on.

    Thanks

I'm sure most people suspected the Valencia move would not work out well in the end...perhaps not so quickly, though. Completely agree with the comments that he needs to spend a few years at Everton at a minimum. Everton are a strong side and can certainly contend for Europe every year. He'll play alongside great players like Arteta and Yakubu and if he continues on the path that he was on there last year, this will turn out to be a great move for both club and player.

On the other hand, the only respect in which he's shown consistency is in his tendency to make bad decisions. I've followed his career since he was 18 and he has constantly shot himself in the foot and pissed off his clubs and their fans. I only hope that Moyes can control this kid and harness his considerable talent. Portugal do need him to excel and Everton can be a great stage for him.

It is a good move for Fernandes to go back to Everton. I think the discipline in English football and especially under David Moyes will get the best out of him. He should stay at Everton for a couple of years before looking for another big move.

Manuel Fernandes is in the line of some other Portuguese players who move to big clubs too early in their careers and become failures at the big clubs. Some of the Portuguese players need to learn to develop at smaller clubs an then move to bigger clubs later in their careers. In this case Manuel Fernandes made a very foolish decison in going to Valencia instead of Everton where he had a good spell last year. He had indicated he was going to Everton and then at the last minute went to Valencia. Maybe his agent had alot to do with this --- who knows but the player is responsible for the final decision. Manuel Fernandes is physically a good player and if he can get his mental act together is still young enough to recover his career. Portugal needs to produce strong physical and technical players to compete at the national level and Fernandes has gifts needed by Portugal for the next 10 years. It will be a shame if this player fails to the player first and to the national team as there are few Portuguese players with his physical strength and technical skills to be a good defensive midfielder. Lets hope the player can recover. Portugal is too small of a country to be able to absord players of this quality not living up to their potentail.

This guy has had too many bites of the cherry. I think he looks at Cristiano and wants what he has. The fact that Nani and Anderson went to Man U. instead of him, probably ticked him off even more so. He's talented and can be one of the best players in the world in his position, but he wants life in the fast lane. Problem with that is, you will crash and burn.

About Manuel Fernandes one part of me says once a waster always a waster. Should've stayed with us (Everton) and could have helped us qualify for the Champions League.

In two minds if I want him now. Only if he's got his head screwed on, the transfer is definitive and for a minimum of five years and he realises he is at a big club, buckles down and stops trying to get a move elsewhere.

Nani played ok against that China team but they were very weal adversaries. It will be much difficult for him in prmeiership. I think he shud stayd at sporting 2 more years.

Nani will be immense at United. Fergie is building quite possibly the most exciting football team of all time.

Any chance of a translation of the Mourinho interview which appeared in the Jornal Record on Tuesday 12 June? For some reason they haven't made it available online.

I am pretty new at this. Can someone please explain how these transfers work? Does the team getting the player pay the team that the player was on a certain amount of money? Does his old team have a right to match the offer? Also, do you think any Portuguese players will ever join Major League Soccer in the U.S.? Also, why are the uniforms called "kits"? Thanks.

Its great to see sergio conceicao wishes to leave standard liege. I hope he moves to spain or england. His style and character will make him a crowd favourite. If he has a good season in Spain or England, then Scolari has no choice but to field one experienced old generation player.

loved your player's profile but missed one of the biggest names of the "Golden Generation": Paulo Sousa. Twice European Champion, on consecutive years and for two different clubs; player of the year in his first year with Juventus, etc, etc.
    Com'on, a page on him! ;)

Ronaldo's good but overated. Carvalho's very good but commits too many fouls. Boa Morte the same. Ferreira should not be playing for a team like Chelsea. Vaz Te should go back to Portugal until he is older. The best Portuguese player in the Premiership? Pedro Mendes without a doubt. Tottenham should never have sold him.

Portuguese players should move to the Premiership when they leave. Just look at how succesful Ronaldo, Carvalho, Mendes, Boa Morte have been. The way the game is played in England suits the superior skills of the Portuguese players.

Cristiano Ronaldo

No question in my mind the kid will be the greatest player in the world, look at the season he’s having this year, Newcastle didn’t have an answer for him left or right foot it doesn’t matter he’s going to beat you. Portuguese soccer looks fantastic and I’m very proud right now of the federation.
      Kevin Dos Ramos

Chance for Maniche

Well, at last this very good and so underrated player got his team. Together with Costinha he will do great in Atletico Madrid. I even think, it was Costinha who helped him to get there.

Goodbye Ronaldo

Too bad to see such great talent about to be lost. Should this cheat move to Spain, he will never get the attention and care Sir Alex gave him, too many footballers no longer have loyalty to anyone except themselves!!

Maniche out of place; respect due for Mourinho and Chelsea

Maniche is a great player but at Chelsea he’ll go nowhere. He doesn’t fit at all well into English football and you can see he’s not happy staying in England, I’d always be happy to see him in a Porto shirt again but I think he wouldn’t do too badly in France where there are more Portuguese people and where he would personally fit in better with that society seeing as there are a lot of Portuguese in France.

The English Press is a disgrace and I hate the way they portray Mourinho: as an arrogant foreigner who’s not good enough for them. Mourinho has never come across to me as really arrogant. He is very confidant that this is also why he’s a winner. I think with four consecutive titles he has as much right to talk and deserves as much respect as the local managers. Why is it such a big deal when Chelsea do something? Sure Dorgba sometimes dives and has handled the ball but don’t tell me that there aren’t players from other teams who never do the same. Basically Chelsea may have more money but teams like Barcelona or Man U can still pretty much buy any player they want, therefore why doesn’t Mourinho and Chelsea deserve as much respect as any one else?

Mourinho's Column

I come here to read Jose’s words because the British press misquote him. I am going to learn Portuguese so I can improve my understanding. Meanwhile, I appreciate your translations. Thank you.
      Jose rocks

Give Maniche a chance

I don’t get it... Mourinho goes out and gets Maniche, lets him play one or two games, then relegates him to the subs bench. He hasn’t played in weeks. C’mon Jose - you know he can play. I know you have a bunch of talent and depth in midfield, but keeping Maniche on the bench isn’t helping him, Chelsea or the national team!!

Mourinho's column

Hello, just a comment on your site. Sometimes the British press will translate bits of Jose’s column (without crediting it of course) when he says something controversial (which is quite often); also as he doesn’t talk to them very often.

They did this last week including the bit: “During these two weeks during which we played the tie against Barcelona, I’ve been able to discover the ‘creepy-crawlies’ who have been hiding and I say to them: ‘I am Portuguese, a true Portuguese, I’d like the Portuguese team Benfica to win the Champions League!’ The ‘creepy-crawlies’ are not the Catalans who, intellectually intoxicated, received me like Figo and who happily bellowed ‘Portuguese son of a bitch’. Nor are they some English, pained because the Portuguese arrived and cleaned up the championship in an instant, hurting their pride. Jealousy is the weapon of the incompetent and frustrated.”

I always thought you translated the whole column - you left the best bit out of your version! Apart from that small quibble keep up the good work.

Mourinho hounding

I hope Mr. Mourinho realises that the main reason for the current hate-campaigns against him in the press are aimed at bigger fish than himself. The anti-semitic aims of many are to “get” Roman Abramovich. To get rid of Abramovich’s manager and shame the club is just the start for them. If Richard Branson (of Virgin) was the billionaire pumping money into Chelsea, rather than one of the world’s wealthiest jews, the racist English press would have no complaint.
      Gary Wright

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo will be one of the world’s best players after this World Cup. All he needs is a world class stage to shine and he will.
      Andrew

Carvalho

Ricardo Carvalho. Unpronouncable surname, stupid hair - awesome player.
      Mourinho's coat

Maniche Mistake

Maniche should not of gone to Chelsea. He may be getting top class football, but if he stayed at Dinamo Moscow he would be able to play with Costinha more and become a deadly pair.
