Argentina return beckons for Bergessio
Benfica striker Gonzalo Bergessio, who looks set to leave the club, is wanted back in his native Argentina. San Lorenzo and Rosario Central are interested in taking the player off the Portuguese club’s hands.
Bergessio has not gained the confidence of Benfica coach Jose Antonio Camacho since his arrival from Racing Avellenada at the beginning of the season and was told that he did not fit into the club’s plans before departing for the Christmas holiday break.
The news has reached the player’s homeland and alerted clubs in Argentina who are willing to take the player on. “We have made an offer to Benfica and are awaiting their response,” confirmed San Lorenzo president, Rafael Savino.
Rosario Central have also put in a bid for the player. “We have spoken to the directors of Benfica and after we will speak to the player to discuss the possibilities of a deal with him,” claimed club president Manuel Usandizaga.
Coentrao loan completed
In other teams news Benfica have offloaded Portuguese U20 winger Fabio Coentrao to Nacional. The young starlet also did not fit into Camacho’s schemes and has been loaned out to the Madeira side until the end of the season where he will gain much needed experience and playing time.
Coentrao joins Miguel Vitor, Romeu Ribeiro, Yu Dabao and Miguelito as part of Benfica’s housecleaning this winter. Also expected to leave are Andres Diaz and Marco Zoro.
