Boavista welcome back keeper Carlos

Ex-Steaua Bucharest stopper returns to Black Panthers

Carlos

Goalkeeper Carlos has returned to Boavista after a turbulent spell in Romania with Steaua Bucharest. He will wear the number 13 shirt, the date of the birth of his daughter.

The 27-year-old was delighted to put pen to paper on a contract with his former club. “It was the club that launched my career and it was thanks to Boavista that I got where I got to. I really believe in this club and my ambition is to fight for an even better future.”

Carlos made a point of remembering his debut for Boavista against FC Porto at the Estadio do Dragao, which ended in a 1-0 win handing Porto their first ever defeat in the new stadium. He was given his debut that day by Jaime Pacheco, who is again at the helm of the team.

Carlos quickly made the goalkeeper’s position his own and his impressive performances earned him a big money move to Steaua Bucharest.

But after starting well in Romania and even becoming something of a cult hero among the club’s fans, things went downhill fast this season. After making two costly errors the president of Steaua Bucharest said he would offer 100,000 dollars to any club who would buy the Portuguese goalkeeper.

However, Boavista president Joao Loureiro has no doubts about the attributes of his new keeper: “the quality of the player and his love of the club are fundamental values that we want for Boavista in the future.”

Loureiro went on to add that the spending will not stop here: “We’re going to strengthen the club with 10 to 12 players who have these qualities.”
