Boavista sign ex-Barcelona defender
Marcelao signs three-year deal
Boavista have unveiled their latest acquisition in central defender, Marcelao. The 26-year-old has signed with the club for three years and arrives from Vila Nova in Brazil.
Club president, Joao Loureiro, presented the player to the press explaining why Boavista thought so highly of the Brazilian: “He was our first choice and he is a leader. He talks a lot throughout a game.”
Marcelao had a previous stint in Europe with none other than Barcelona. The player joined the club at a young age but did not manage to adapt and was let go.
“I was 18 years old and I still managed to play some games as part of the starting XI due to Albeardo’s injury, but afterwards I was dropped and returned to Brazil.”
He insists that he has matured to become a better player, and told the press what the fans should expect from him. “I am a good marker. I like to lead the attack from the back and I like to take free kicks.”
