Braga raid Boavista for striker Linz

Austrian falls out with Pacheco and moves to local rivals

Roland Linz

Sporting Braga have pulled off a major coup by acquiring Roland Linz from Boavista.

The deal was completed this past weekend and comes as something of a surprise, but one that Braga coach Jorge Costa is more than willing to welcome.

The interest from the Arsenalistas had been widely known and the club took advantage of the striker’s recent fallout with Boavista coach, Jaime Pacheco.

The Austrian had not seen eye to eye with Pacheco. As a result he was left out of the team line-up as the Black Panthers played out a scoreless draw against Uniao de Leiria in the opening weekend.

Boavista’s top goalscorer last season has signed a three-year deal for Uefa Cup participants Braga, but terms of the transfer fee were not disclosed.

Linz becomes Braga’s 15th signing this season behind Ze Manel, Cesar Peixoto, Joao Pereira, Joao Tomas, Bruno Tiago, Roberto Brum, Lenny, Kazeem, Jair Baylon, Jailson, Yasser Hussain, Anilton Junior, Halleson and Kiezek.
