Jesualdo Ferreira: "We proved we have ability to progress in this group"

Coach upbeat despite draw against CSKA

FC Porto manager Jesualdo Ferreira has admitted that he was frustrated by his team’s inability to score against CSKA Moscow in the 0-0 draw at the Etadio do Dragao last night.

The Portuguese champions enjoyed the vast majority of the game’s best chances, but were unable to scored against the Russians. Ferreira admitted that the result was a disappointment: “The result wasn’t positive because our attacking efforts didn’t work out.”

“Efficacy is something that one improves, even though we can’t think it was just the forwards that failed, we have to train more on that.”

“We never thought we would lose this game as we had few problems defensively. We were a bit anxious at the start and that prevented us from relaxing but after that we created enough chances to score at least one goal.”

“CSKA were a team who allowed us the initiative and never took any risks. This game has served as good preparation for the tests to come although it was a bit frustrating not to get the result we wanted. We have to be satisfied as this is another step towards building a stronger Porto, but we know we have to work next on improving our scoring.”

“The next games are more complicated. Arsenal will test our abilities, but in today’s game we proved we have the ability to go ahead in the group.”

Porto travel to London to play Arsenal in the next match on September 26th. The Gunners top the group after beating Hamburg 2-1 in Germany last night thanks to goals from Gilberto Silva and Tomas Rosicky.
