Shakhtar 1-2 Benfica - Match Reaction

Jose Antonio Camacho, Benfica coach:

“We achieved our aim when we arrived here, which was the same when we played Milan – to win the game. After six games in the Champions League none of our opponents were better than Benfica and if we had won or drawn in Glasgow we would have qualified for the next round, but it’s no use thinking about that now.

“Now we want to win the upcoming games, I don’t care against who or in what competition. Our aim is always to win the next match.”

Oscar Cardozo, Benfica striker:

“Yes it was my first Benfica goal scored with a header. I have to practice more with my team-mates to be able to score more goals like that. We got a good result and we will enter another European competition, which is important for Benfica.”

Rui Costa, Benfica midfielder:

“With a lot of work and a lot of sacrifice we won. We are out of one competition but we enter another.

“We know the difficulties we will face in the Uefa Cup, but our aims are the same as always – to go as far as possible, if possible to the final. It’s not an easy competition, a lot of teams will come from the Champions League as well as the good teams already there.”

Mircea Lucescu, Shakhtar coach:

“We started the match well, with the chance of a goal from Fernandinho. But Benfica have a lot of experience, especially Rui Costa. The fighting spirit and experience shown by Benfica were excellent.

“Benfica can go all the way to the final of the Uefa Cup. It’s a good team, young, well organised and with a good technical level. Then they have a great player in Rui Costa.”
