Sporting 3-0 Dynamo Kiev - Match Reaction

Paulo Bento, Sporting coach:

“We could have been fighting for a place in the last sixteen in this match because that would have been just for the team. In the games against Roma we deserved more than we got.

“It was a good goodbye to the Champions League. We played well and we scored goals in every game apart from the first. But we also conceded eight goals and that’s too much. Some defensive mistakes cost us dearly.

“We lost by a single goal against great teams. We’re not among the favourites for the Uefa Cup because there are great teams in the competition already, and more strong ones will be coming from the Champions League.”

Anderson Polga, Sporting defender:

“We didn’t want to be in this position in the last match, but it was important to have this attitude. It lifts our morale and gives us confidence for our next matches. We played well in the six Champions League matches, and deserved a better position. But to end like this was good for the supporters.”

“It was important to get a second successive win because I can’t remember, in the last two and half years, so many games without getting a win. These two victories are good for our confidence.”

Joao Moutinho, Sporting midfielder:

“We showed we had the ability to qualify for the next round. We had some bad luck. We’ve got a good team, but in the Uefa Cup there are other good teams. We’ll try and go as far as possible.”

Adrien Silva, Sporting midfielder:

“We played well as a team and the most important thing was to win this game. Yes, it was special for me because it was my first match in this fantastic competition. My team-mates helped me which was very important. It’s a dream for any young player to play in this competition.”
