Tension rises as Estrela da Amadora squad go unpaid again

Players and coach owed salaries dating back to December

Frustration continues to grow within Estrela da Amadora’s camp as president Antonio Oliveira has once again reneged on his promise to pay players and coaches unpaid wages dating back to December of last year.

The club president claimed two weeks ago that the situation would be resolved after the players staged a mini-boycott by not training until receiving their salaries.

Time has now passed and team captain Mauricio has stated that the players have not seen a euro cent since Oliveira’s promise.

Mauricio did not state whether the squad would stage another protest as a result of Oliveira’s failure to come up with the goods, but said the team would continue to prepare for this weekend’s clash against FC Porto.

Despite the interrupted training schedule, Estrela scored a vital win on the weekend against Academica to leave them well placed to win their battle against relegation.

The team from the Lisbon outskirts are currently sitting in 11th place in the table with 28 points and a comfortable 7-point cushion from the relegation zone.
