Estrela da Amadora squad yet to see the colour of money this season

Players and coaching staff go unpaid

As if suffering a humiliating defeat was not bad enough, more bad news has fallen upon Estrela da Amadora. It has been revealed that the club’s players and coaching staff have not been paid any salaries so far this season.

Fans will remember that the club underwent the exact same situation last season, resulting in the players staging a boycott of training to protest against the club’s failure to pay their wages. But the financial crisis has spilled over into this year with club president Antonio Oliveira admitting that the squad and staff are owed salaries.

“Yes it is true that we owe for these past few months, but I think that the situation will be solved quickly,” confessed Oliveira.

“Every day I wait to be told that the club’s financial obligations have been met. As soon as they are, I will be able to pay the players.

“We have everything paid up until May and we have handed in a declaration stating so, It is true that we still owe some players dating back to May, but others have already received their money,” clarified Oliveira.

Players’ professionalism praised

While trying to come up with creative ways to get out of the hole that the club are currently in, Oliveira praised the team for their patience and understanding, and assured the fans that the delicate situation would not hinder the team’s performances.

“I have no doubt that this will not interfere. They are great professionals and know that this, sooner or later, will be resolved, I have one of the best group of players and that is why this issue has not been exposed until now.”
