Guimaraes release Ghilas
Algerian striker leaves northerners
Vitoria Guimaraes have announced on their website that they will no longer be attempting to sign forward Ghilas to a long-term contract. The Vimarense have been locked in negotiations with the Algerian for weeks and have been unable to reach an agreement with the player.
The 24-year-old arrived two years ago from AS Cannes when Guimaraes were still in the Liga da Honra and helped the team gain promotion to Portugal’s top flight that same year.
This season Ghilas played a big role in the team’s historic feat of finishing in third place in the table, thus cementing a spot in the third round of the Champions League qualifying phase. Ghilas ends his association with the club after making 58 appearances, scoring 18 goals.
In other club news, Guimaraes have announced that Targino will join up with the squad for pre-season training after ending his loan spell with Turkish club Vestel Manisaspor.
The team’s training camp will open on July 1 at Quinta do Pinheiro before the squad fly out to Switzerland for a set of friendlies.
