Guimaraes lose Geromel to Cologne

Defender departs for Germany; Brazilian striker brought in

Vitoria Guimaraes have seen one player hit the exit door, but have welcomed a new face into the fold. The historical club have received a blow in losing influential central defender Geromel to newly promoted Bundesliga side FC Cologne, but have added Jean Coral to their strike force.

Reports had been rife that the lanky Brazilian stopper would be moving away from Champions League bound Guimaraes, and the transfer has finally materialized. Cologne are preparing for life in Germany’s top flight and see the defender as an integral piece of the jigsaw to make sure they stay there.

The 22-year-old has signed a four year deal with the former three time Bundesliga champions and is excited about making the move, stating that he took the best offer that was presented to him.

“Everyone I spoke to encouraged me to go to Cologne and the Bundesliga. I studied all the proposals carefully and understood that this one was the best for my career,” declared Geromel on the club’s official website.

“I do not speak German and because of this I will encounter difficulties in the beginning, but I expect to adapt quickly. I know very little about the German league, but I do know it is one of the strongest in Europe.”

On a happier note, Guimaraes have signed striker Jean Coral to a three-year deal from Brazilian club Criciuma. Little is known of the player and terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Coral is pleased with the move and is looking to give his all to his new club. “I signed a contract for three years. I will try to do my best in order to win many titles and give a lot back to the city and the supporters of Guimaraes.”
