Andrezinho targets Europe for Guimaraes

Brazilian delighted at strong start by newly promoted club

Vitoria Guimares are enjoying their return to Portugal’s top flight as they sit in fifth place in the table with 12 points from 7 matches. The team is playing good football, and one player who has helped club’s successful return to life in the Bwin Liga is right-back Andrezinho.

The summer signing celebrated his 26th birthday yesterday and is taking the good form of Guimaraes and his own performances in his stride.

“I feel good and I adapted quickly,” said the Brazilian. “Sincerely, on a personal level, I expected a lot more difficulty and not such a positive adaptation. Vitoria Guimaraes was the best choice for me in my career – I have no doubts about this.”

“This is the moment to have my feet planted in the ground. We must continue to work hard to improve and look to minimise errors. We know that we have a good team, but we also know that we are not the best.”

As for the rest of the season, the player would like the team to earn a European berth for next season, but knows it is a big ask given that the club has just returned to the top flight.

“I would like to continue to have a good season, with serenity. What is most important is to end up in a good position at the end of the season in order to achieve our objectives.”

“We have the goal to finish in one of the top positions in order to earn a Uefa Cup or Champions League spot, but we came up from the Liga da Honra last season and we cannot forget that.”
