Guimaraes win Coruna tournament
Northerners continue good form with victory in Spain
Vitoria Guimaraes claimed some silverware yesterday as the Portuguese side won the Juan Acuna Trophy against Spanish neighbours, Deportivo La Coruna.
It took penalties to decide the winner, but Guimaraes were triumphant at The Riazor and brought the trophy home to celebrate it with their fans.
Mrdakovic opened the scoring for the Portuguese side in the 35th minute as the big Serbian got on the end of a corner kick.
Guimaraes looked ready to lay claim to their first piece of silverware this year, but Aythami equalized for the Spanish side in the dying seconds of the match to send it to penalties.
Serginho proved to be the hero for the historical Portuguese club as he saved two penalties as Guimaraes won the shoot-out 4-3.
