Sensational Guimaraes boost Champions League dream
Vitoria Setubal 0-1 Vitoria Guimaraes
Guimaraes scored a huge away win when they downed Setubal 1-0 at the Estadio do Bonfim.
A second-half Mrdakovic goal was enough to see Guimaraes leapfrog Sporting and move into third place, just two points behind Benfica lying second in the table.
Both teams have played some dazzling football this season, so it was disappointment to see a tight first half with defences well on top.
The second half came to life as Guimaraes almost scored in the 57th minute when Flavio re-directed a corner kick at the near post with Geromel and Sereno both on the spot, but neither could get the vital touch.
The near miss was a prelude for a goal one minute later as Mrdakovic, looking suspiciously offside, picked up a sloppy Eduardo rebound to score what would prove to be the winner.
Claudio Pitbull thought he had scored the equaliser late on, but his arching effort just missed at the far post as Guimaraes coolly closed out the game.
Both sides will now turn their attention to the Portuguese Cup this weekend. Guimaraes host Nacional while Setubal will have to put the loss behind them when they take on Uniao de Leiria.
