Transfer merry-go-round gets into full swing

Leiria bolster squad for relegation fight

Uniao de Leiria continue to make splashes in the transfer market, sealing a loan deal for Maritmo’s Arvid Smit. The player was on the outers with the Madeira club and Leiria opted to pick him up for some much needed help.

Leiria are currently languishing in last place in the table with only five points. Arvid Smit is the club’s third reinforcement during this period, having already brought back former players Harrison and Ferreira from Brazil as they attempt to climb out of the relegation zone.

It is believed that Leiria have also locked their sights on Borussia Monchengladbach’s central defender Ze Antonio. Finally, the club have loaned out midfielder Marco Soares to Romanian club Pandurii. The player will spend the second half of the season in Romania where he will link up with recently appointed coach Joaquim Teixeira.

Boavista readjustments

Boavista have also been very active in the transfer market. The Porto based club officially announced that they have brought in well-travelled Portuguese midfielder, Luis Loureiro. The former Sporting player rescinded his contract with Cypriot club Anorthosis Famagusta and has signed a one and a half year deal with the Black Panthers.

The player who has also represented Gil Vicente, Sporting Braga, Dinamo Moscow and Estrela Amadora is excited to have joined Boavista and cannot wait to get started. “Boavista are a big club. I promise hard work and dedication,” he said.

The club have also announced the signing of 18-year-old Colombian, Byan Angulo. The defender is expected to arrive in the next couple of days. Going in the other direction is Serbian striker Milan Gagic, who has failed to impress Jaime Pacheco following his summer move and has been released.

Sousa returns to Pacos

Pacos de Ferreira have also been busy as the club wrapped up a deal for Paulo Sousa. The player is a familiar face at the club. The striker represented Pacos before his move to Cypriot side APOP Kiryas Pegeas seven months ago.

“I am looking forward to helping the club climb their way up the table,” explained the excited striker. “I returned firstly to be with my family, and secondly because of the strength of the invitation made by Pacos de Ferreira.”

“I have seen some of their games and they were good, but lost due to bad luck. I feel there is a lot of desire to change the current situation.”

Another forward who may be joining Pacos is Nacional’s Cassio. The striker is out of favour with the Madeira club and has been told to find a new club during the transfer period. Terms have been agreed with the player and now the two clubs must thrash out a deal.
