Carlos Martins delighted to get on the scoresheet
Ex-Sporting midfielder emphasises team effort in victory
Recreativo midfielder Carlos Martins says he is happy to have scored his first goal for the club, and believes that the midweek victory over Deportivo will give his side confidence going into upcoming games against the top teams.
Martins netted his first goal since his summer move from Sporting as Recre ran out 2-0 winners at the Riazor, with the Portuguese widely acknowledged to have enjoyed his best game of the season so far.
“I like to score, during seasons I usually score some goals, but more important was that the team beat a direct rival. I am happier with the victory than the goal,” Martins said.
“I always work for the team. Carlos Martins is well when the team is well because we don’t win anything on our own. It is easier to play with eleven players than only one or two.”
Recre’s next two matches are both at the club’s home Nuevo Colombino stadium, against Valencia on Sunday and Real Madrid the following week, and Martins believes that the win over Depor serves as the perfect boost ahead of the games.
“I’m very happy because we played a good game,” Martins said. “We went out there to win, played our game and it went well. Now we have more confidence ahead of these matches against Valencia and Real Madrid.
“We can keep improving and do better. If we play as we can, we can and should win them because we are at home,” concluded the Portuguese international.
