Figo ponders over another season at Inter Milan or retirement

Veteran rejects US, Middle East and QPR overtures

Luis Figo has admitted that he would like to play one more season with Italian champions Inter.

The veteran of 127 caps for Portugal was expected to move into semi-retirement this summer, with Figo thought to be ready to choose between North America and the Middle East to continue his career after his contract at the San Siro expires at the end of the season.

However, as was the case last summer when the 35-year-old was considering his future, the pleas of Inter president Massimo Moratti for him to stay on appear to have convinced Figo to delay his departure for another year.

Speaking earlier this month, Moratti said: “It’s not certain Figo will retire. I will certainly make him an offer to continue next season. I have been touched by his willingness to make himself useful and be crucial.”

Figo, who was asked about his future while in Budapest filming an advertisement, also revealed that if he did not stay at Inter, he would not be looking for another club in Europe, following press reports linking him with English Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

“I would like to play one more season with Inter. If I do not do so, I will finish my career,” said the former Sporting, Barcelona and Real Madrid man.
