Mourinho counting on Figo to extend Inter Milan career
Winger advises Ronaldo to make Real Madrid switch
New Inter manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that he would like to keep hold of veteran Portuguese winger Luis Figo for his first season in charge at the San Siro.
Figo’s contract expired in May and the 35-year-old recently admitted that he was keen to stay on and be a part of the Mourinho revolution at the Italian champions.
“I spoke with Luis to find out what he was thinking,” Mourinho revealed. “He told me that he’d like to stay and felt that he could continue. I think he can. He is a player who still has a big contribution to give.
“Now, with regard to the contract, it is between him and the president. I don’t think there will be any problems, they are good friends and share a mutual admiration.”
Meanwhile, Figo has given his thoughts on the ongoing speculation regarding Cristiano Ronaldo’s future, as the Manchester United forward continues to find himself the subject of strong interest from Spanish champions Real Madrid.
“Real Madrid is the best club in the world. They are the utmost, club-wise, the top – almost like reaching the sky. So nobody can be indifferent to the wishes of a club like Real. If, someday, Ronaldo asks me, I will tell him: Go to Madrid with no fears.”
