Figo tempted to join Beckham and Xavier at LA Galaxy

Veteran admits considering US sojourn to career

Luis Figo

Portuguese winger Luis Figo has admitted that a summer move to play in the United States at the end of the season would be a tempting option to extend his playing career.

The 34-year-old was set to leave current club Inter during the close season, until a late change of mind saw him decide to put his decision to leave top level football on hold for another year.

MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy have since been strongly linked as Figo’s next destination, a move which would see him link up with former club team-mates David Beckham and former international colleague Abel Xavier.

Figo, while admitting that he still has his eye on retirement, says a move across the Atlantic could see him play on beyond next summer, when his deal with the Nerazurri comes to an end.

“How much longer will I play? This year and, later, I’ll finish,” he said. “Unless an opportunity arises to play in the USA. It would be more something to complement my family.”

“I will not close the door on the USA,” he said. “On the contrary, if I was to continue playing I would go there because I would like to create something positive for my family as well.”

“For example it would give my daughters the possibility to study English and I think in general it would be a beautiful experience to go there.”

“If there are interesting offers from the MLS I will consider them. If not, I will retire.”
