Maciel and Uniao de Leiria part company
Brazilian forward rescinds contract
Uniao de Leiria and Maciel have gone their separate ways after the player rescinded his contract with immediate effect.
The Brazilian forward has endured a troubled season since returning to the leiriense last summer and is happy that the break-up has come about.
Maciel has been serving an internal suspension for violating club regulations and has now agreed that the best option is to leave outright, while taking a massive pay cut.
“I decided to accept what they proposed so I would not have to wait any longer. I lost a lot of money with Leiria just so I could leave right away. My situation was very confusing and I did not want to wait any more,” stated a frustrated Maciel.
“Now I will wait and see what happens in the next few days and allow my agent to proceed with negotiations with some interested clubs. I have proposals from Brazil, South Korea and Portugal.”
Although keen to get playing again, the player stated he will take his time, study all the offers presented and select the best solution for him.
