Leiria pick up Polish defender

Antonio Lukasiewicz signs season-long loan

Uniao de Leiria have snapped up Polish defender Antonio Lukasiewicz from Spanish second division side, Elche, on a season-long loan.

The player did not fit into the Spanish club’s plans and was allowed to join Leiria for the upcoming campaign.

As part of the deal, Leiria will pay half the player’s salary and have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season should Lukasiewicz impress.

The Polish stopper will be available for Leiria’s upcoming Uefa Cup second-leg match against Maccabi Netanya, and this proved to be the driving force for the player’s move.
