Leixoes and Boavista share points in thriller

Leixoes 2-2 Boavista

A thrilling encounter at the Estadio do Mar saw Leixoes and Boavista go down to the wire and play themselves to a 2-2 draw.

Both teams fought hard for the win right from the off with Jorge Ribeiro and Jaime exchanging opportunities in the opening 25 minutes. Lainoel then came close to putting the visitors into the lead when his effort missed by centimetres.

Leixoes were going tit-for-tat with their rivals as Jorge Goncalves saw his effort in the 29th minute come back off the post.

The match got even better in the second half as Boavista opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Obi got a foot to a Marcelao header. Leixoes levelled in the 73rd minute as Jorge Goncalves right-footed a Paulo Machado cross into the back of the Boavista net.

The home side grabbed the lead just seven minutes later as Jorge Goncalves notched himself a brace when the midfielder picked up a loose ball in the Boavista area giving Leixoes a late lead.

But just when it seemed the hosts had all three points wrapped up, Marcelao made sure that Boavista walked away with a point when the central defender headed in a Hussaine cross to end the night’s action at 2-2.

Nacional vs Vitoria Guimaraes abandoned

The other match played yesterday had to be interrupted on 33 minutes with the score 0-0 as the intense fog in Madeira made visibility close to zero. The match will resume on Sunday at 4.00 pm.
