Carlos Brito resigns as Leixoes coach

Poor results dictate exit of former Boavista boss

Carlos Brito

Jose Antonio Camacho was not the only coach to resign this past weekend. Leixoes boss Carlos Brito also stepped down from his post after his team’s 2-1 loss to Naval.

The team has been going through turbulent times recently having not won since last January, bringing Brito’s position at the club into question.

This weekend’s defeat was the last straw as the Portuguese tactician felt he no longer had commanded his squad’s respect, and therefore decided to leave the club with immediate effect.

The resignation has left a bitter taste in the Leixoes board’s mouth with the club’s president, Carlos Oliveira, placing the blame squarely on his players.

“The team are egoists and do not know how to help the coach. Some players enjoy looking for comfort in other places. This has to stop,” fumed Oliveira. “I recognise the serenity and dignity of Carlos Brito. Perhaps he did not manage to pass on his message or perhaps they did not allow him to work.”

Assistant coach Antonio Pinto takes over on a temporary basis as the club from the outskirts of Porto seek a permanent replacement.

Leixoes are in 14th place in the table on 21 points, five points above the relegation zone.
