Carlos Brito appointed Leixoes coach

Respected boss takes reins at newly promoted club

Carlos Brito

Carlos Brito was yesterday confirmed as the coach of newly promoted Bwin Liga club Leixoes.

The club has returned to the top flight after an absence of almost two decades, and many expect the team from the industrial suburbs of Porto to struggle, but that did not deter Brito.

“When the board invited me I didn’t look back,” said the former Rio Ave, Boavista and Nacional da Madeira boss, who signed a one-year contract.

“A club of this magnitude would have no lack of coaches interested in taking over. If there were any other clubs interested in my services they would have to take second place.”

“What’s important now is that Leixoes remain in the top flight for many years, with or without me. There aren’t too many bigger clubs in Portugal, with these demanding and passionate supporters, but I’m prepared for everything. To train this club is a privilege.”
