Outstanding Lyon crush Dynamo

Dynamo Kiev 0-3 Lyon

Lyon’s outstanding form in Europe continued as they dismantled Dynamo Kiev with ease in the Ukraine to put one foot in the knockout phases.

Goals from man of the moment, Juninho, Kim Kallstrom and Florent Malouda saw the French champions run out easy winners and all but end Kiev’s aspirations of qualification for the next round.

After the weekend’s energy absorbing win over St Etienne, Gerard Houllier rested Portuguese midfielder Tiago, as well as Jeremy Toulalan, giving starts to Alou Diarra and Kin Kallstrom.

The visitors took the lead just after the half-hour mark with a typically excellent free-kick from Juninho, Following on from his late winner against local rivals St Etienne on Saturday, the Brazilian dispatched a dipping, trademark shot into the top corner from 25 metres.

Kim Kallstrom made it two before half time when he turned Kiev defender Goran Gavrancic and kept his composure to sweep in a clinical finish at the near post and beat Lutsenko.

Winger Florent Malouda got the third just six minutes into the second half when he headed in a corner from Juninho, who also set up all three goals in Lyon’s last win at Steaua Bucharest.

Tiago came on for the final ten minutes, and Lyon could have scored on several other occasions before the referee blew the final whistle to put the Ukrainians out of their misery.

With maximum points from their opening three games, a win for the French side in the return fixture with Kiev will see them qualify early.
