Winger acknowledges crucial role in helping duo settle

Manchester United’s Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo feels that compatriot Nani has moved to the right club, and says he will do everything he can to help his new team-mate settle in at Old Trafford.

The Premiership champions made a sensational double swoop on Portuguese football in May when they signed Anderson from Porto and 20-year-old Nani for a combined fee in the region of 50 million euros.

“I still haven’t spoken with Nani but I am going to do everything I can so that his stay in Manchester goes well,” Ronaldo said when asked about Nani’s move to England.

“I really hope he has the same success as me, or even more, because he’s got the ability to do this. He’s joining the right club to evolve as a player and as a person.”

Former Sporting man Ronaldo, who has been in England for four years, is the only fluent Portuguese speaker on the playing staff at United, and recognises that he will be crucial in helping his new team-mates adapt to their new surroundings.

“Whatever I can do for Nani and Anderson I’ll do with the greatest of pleasure, because they don’t know Manchester or how the club operates.”

When asked about United’s aims for the new season, Ronaldo replied: “I hope that things will go the same as last year and that we will be champions, but not just in the league, also in the Champions League.”
