Quaresma: “Ronaldo best in the world”

United winger the pride of Portugal says former team-mate

Ricardo Quaresma

Ricardo Quaresma has praised the recent form of Cristiano Ronaldo, saying that he expects the Manchester United man to go on to become the undisputed best player in the world.

Quaresma came through the ranks at Sporting around the same time as Ronaldo, with the pair remaining good friends after going their separate ways in the summer of 2003, with Quaresma heading for Barcelona as Ronaldo made the switch to Old Trafford.

Now, after watching his countryman break George Best’s record for amount of goals scored for the Red Devils in a single season by a non-striker, Quaresma says Ronaldo’s next step is to be recognised as the number one player in world football.

“There are some great players but if you are asking me if he is the best at this moment, I would say yes,” said Quaresma, who is hoping to claim a place on the opposite wing as Ronaldo in the Portugal side for this summer’s European Championships campaign.

“I am happy for him. It is a source of great pride for all of us Portuguese, what Ronaldo has been doing. The only thing we wait for now is that Cristiano achieves the title of best player in the world.

“He has the quality to do it, with the work he has been doing I have no doubts that he will earn that title.”
