Nani surprised at smooth adaptation to Old Trafford

Young star reiterates importance of Ronaldo’s support

New Manchester United signing Nani says he is surprised at how quickly he has adapted to life with the Premiership champions.

The 20-year-old has seen plenty of playing time since arriving at Old Trafford from Sporting during the summer, following injuries and suspensions to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Wayne Rooney and Louis Saha.

“I thought the adaptation would be more complicated, but I’ve felt good and managed to play,” he said. “The training is similar to what we did at Sporting, the biggest difference is in the matches themselves, because they require more fight and effort.”

Goal celebration to continue

Nani’s has also set the record straight regarding his goal celebration, after media reports in England claimed it had been discouraged by the United coaching staff due to risk of injury.

“That is not true. Ferguson has never spoken to me about this subject and I am going to continue to celebrate goals in this way. The conversations he has had with me are normal conversations, like he has with all players.”

Finally, the former Sporting man has again underlined the importance of having countryman Ronaldo at the club to help his adaptation, with Brazilian midfielder Anderson completing the Portuguese-speaking trio of youngsters at Old Trafford.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has been unsurpassable in the support he’s given me. He’s really helped me, he is a friend who I spend a lot of time with off the pitch.”

“Anderson has been working really well, he hasn’t made his debut yet, but I’m sure it won’t take long. We have helped each other.”
