Ronaldo pleased as Old Trafford fans forgive and forget
Portuguese winger hoping for repeat season
Cristiano Ronaldo says he is pleased by the reaction of the Manchester United fans since his return to action for the European champions.
The Portuguese started this season later than the rest of his team-mates, following an ankle operation after the European Championships which kept him out for the opening month of the campaign.
Ronaldo’s return against Villarreal last month came after a summer of transfer speculation, during which the player pushed for a move to Real Madrid, and it was questioned by some how warm the former Sporting man’s reception would be when he took to the Old Trafford pitch.
However, Ronaldo was delighted with the reception he received against the Spanish side. “In the game when I came back against Villarreal I wasn’t nervous, but a bit excited to see how the fans would react to me,” he said.
“Thank God things went well. This shows people have not forgotten all the good things we have done together and I am very happy with that.”
Although Ronaldo is yet to reach the performance level of last season, in which he scored 42 goals as the Red Devils won both the Premier League and the Champions League, the Portuguese has returned with two goals since his comeback, and hopes the team can have a similar amount of success this year.
“Things are going pretty well,” he said. “I’d love a repeat of last season and continue to show some good progression.”
