Maritimo’s Sebasitiao Lazaroni walks out of Madeira club
Brazilian coach tipped to take over at Belenenses
Maritimo have seen their head coach, Sebasitiao Lazaroni, resign from his post despite guiding the Madeira club to a Uefa Cup spot for next season.
The Brazilian tactician and club president Carlos Pereira could not come to an agreement over a contract extension, therefore forcing Lazaroni’s hand at finding a new club.
The former Brazilian national team coach is tipped to take over at Belenenses after Jorge Jesus stepped down from his post to join Sporting Braga. It is also believed that Estrela da Amadora are interested in acquiring Lazaroni’s services after Dauto Faquira left for Vitoria Setubal.
Meanwhile midfielder Bruno has renewed with the club for one more year. The 33-year-old was delighted to remain for an additional season saying “I would like to repay the faith shown in me on the pitch. I will try to make Maritimo even stronger.”
However, the club are resigned to losing forward Mossoro and left-back Evaldo. Mossoro’s 1m euro buyout clause is too expensive for the modest club to meet, while defensive stalwart Evaldo is to be sold as the club attempt to raise funds for new players.
Likewise, big questions marks hang over the heads of loaned out players Milton de O, Ze Gomes, Valnei and Arvid Smit. Club president Pereira has yet to decide what he will do with the quartet, but the summer will definitely be one filled with decisions for the Maritimo supremo.
