Lori Sandri appointed Maritimo head coach
Islanders land Brazilian coach at third time of asking
Maritimo president, Carlos Pereira, has picked the replacement for Sebastiao Lazaroni who left the team he guided into next season’s Uefa Cup. The new man at the helm is Lori Sandri, another Brazilian coach, this time an unknown name for Portuguese supporters.
Sandri has trained teams such as Botafogo, Atletico Mineiro, Goias, Criciuma, Parana and Internacional, as well as coaching in Japan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, where he won a host of titles.
The 59-year-old said, “every president demands everything and in football anything can happen. He asked me for more than just qualifying for the UEFA Cup again next season.
“We will work hard and before I speak about new players I want to see which players I have on the team. What I know from the team is what I see on television, but Bruno Fogaca is an example of one of the good players we will count on next season.”
Sandri also revealed it was not the first time Maritimo had tried to contract him. “This was the 3rd time they wanted me, even before Bonamigo and Lazaroni went down there but at the time it was not right for me.”
The Brazilian will work with assistant coaches Joao Abel, Quim and Humberto Fernandes.
