Fernando Cardozo makes Nacional to Maritimo switch
Defender happy to stay in Madeira
Maritimo have pulled one over on their closest rivals, Nacional, signing defender Fernando Cardozo from their island neighbours. The Madeira based club signed the 29-year-old on a free transfer on a two-year deal.
The player stated that his family played a big role in his decision to remain on the island. “My family entered my decision to stay in Madeira. Maritimo made a huge effort and now I am here to play for the next two seasons.
“I left behind great friends at Nacional and I wish them the best, apart from the matches against Maritimo of course,” laughed Cardozo. “I am a professional and now I will do everything to have a good year at this club.”
Maritimo will be entering this year’s Uefa Cup and have made a considerable number of signings ahead of the competition.
Cardozo follows Miguelito, Carlos Fernandes, Pedro Moutinho, Debray, Goncalves and Joao Coimbra as the club’s new signings. Benfica forward Manu is also expected to join the red & green shirts shortly.
