Maritimo axe coach Ulisses Morais

Poor home results dictate exit

A second coaching casualty has occurred in the Bwin Liga in less than a week. After Domingos Paciencia’s resignation from Uniao de Leiria last Friday, Ulisses Morais has stepped down as Maritimo coach.

Morais held a press conference to explain his decision, but refused to take any questions. “It was an honour to represent a big club like Maritimo.”

“I felt that I could not continue in the present circumstances. I would like to publicly state that I have always enjoyed the full support of the board.”

Morais has been the subject of constant abuse from the club’s supporters, above all due to poor results at home where Maritimo have lost four matches.

The islanders are traditionally one of the hardest teams to beat in their own stadium.

Morais finished by wishing the team well and believes they can still qualify for the UEFA Cup.

“I believe that it is still possible to achieve the objective of qualifying for Europe. I want to thank all the players’ efforts.”
