Hatrick hero Pauleta wants World Cup goals

Pauleta attached little importance to his hatrick in Portugal’s 4-1 win over Cape Verde, further reinforcing his position as Portugal’s all-time top goalscorer.

The Azorean has now amassed 46 goals for his national team.

“Of course I’m happy to have scored, but I want to score in the World Cup – that’s what’s important.”

“There’s still some time to go and one game left to play before the tournament starts. What’s important is to prepare the team well to start the World Cup in the best way possible.”

“What was most important was to produce a good training match. We have to try to improve the less positive aspects that came out of today’s game to continue to get stronger.”
