Belgium 1-2 Portugal – Match Reaction

“It was an important victory. We suffered a little at the end, but that should have been unnecessary because we had a lot of opportunities to score. We scored a lot of goals in Portugal, but here their goalkeeper was really good and we did not manage to do the same. We proved that we are better and everything is on the right path for Euro 2008.”

“The result did not correspond to what we did on the pitch. We missed a lot of goalscoring opportunities, but we managed the victory and that is what’s most important. We are still in the hunt for qualification. We played with a lot of young players and we showed that we have a bright future ahead of us.”

“We knew (heading into the game) the other results from Poland and Serbia, so it was fundamental that we won. It was a very physical game and that made our mission difficult as we are at the end of our seasons.”

(On his goal) “I decided to shoot, I had the space to do so. The ball swerved strangely and it ended up in the net. Even better! What’s most important is the Portugal victory.”
