Portugal 3-0 Kazakhstan – Match Reaction

Luiz Filipe Scolari, Portugal coach:

“I liked the attitude of the team tonight. I believe there was good commitment. We created a lot of opportunities, we missed a lot, but these things happen. Overall, I believe we were strong.”

“The players that were here pleased me and most of them will be here for the next squad. There will be one or two substitutions. Simao cannot play as he saw his second yellow card. We will handle the situation and make alterations.”

“The return of Jorge Andrade is a happy moment for all of Portugal. He has shown tremendous commitment in the last few months to recover, and because of this we look to him as an example for all of us regarding how to overcome difficulties with willpower and discipline.”

Simao Sabrosa, Portugal winger:

“The first goal is always the most important. It was a good game, we scored early and created a lot of opportunities. I’m happy to have scored two goals. It was important to break through their defence at the beginning and after, everything happened naturally. We could have scored more.”

Carlos Martins, Portugal midfielder:

“I believe my display was at a normal level and I integrated without difficulties. Portugal played a good game and won the three points, which was the most important thing. I helped to win these three points and I’m happy.”

“I try to do my best at the club I represent and I’m feeling good at Sporting. My objective is to consolidate my place in this squad.”

Tonel, Portugal central defender:

“I’m left with great memories of my debut. We played a good game, we won and I’m extremely happy to have managed to do what the coach asked of me. At the end, he congratulated me, as well as all the other players for the exhibition and victory.”

“I got cramp in my thigh because the pitch was heavy. I did not ask to come off, but it wasn’t worth risking it. I was extremely content to see Jorge Andrade enter, after all the troubles he has had. I’m really happy for him too.”
