Porto stroll to comfortable win
Naval 0-2 Porto
Two early goals were enough for Porto to make it three wins out of three as they saw off the challenge of Naval in Figueira da Foz last night.
Porto’s two full-backs were at the origin of both goals. Marek Cech fired the Champions into a 10th-minute lead, before Bosingwa’s cross was turned into his own net by Mario Sergio.
Playing an official match for the first time in their alternative orange kit, Porto seemed determined to wrap up the points as soon as possible and after several dangerous raids it came as no surprise when Marek Cech opened the scoring after ten minutes.
Quaresma made a diagonal run and passed to the Slovakian left-back who fired a fine cross-shot into the back of the net.
Porto continued to pour forward, but Naval also kept Helton alert with two long-range shots from the boots of Gilmar and Fajardo.
Bosingwa run
But Porto doubled their lead in the 25th minute when Bosingwa made a galloping run down the right flank and crossed into the area where the ball ricocheted off the unfortunate Mario Sergio and ended up in the back of the Naval net.
Close to half time Lucho Gonzalez appeared to be brought down in the box, but the referee waved away Porto’s penalty claims.
As a blanket of fog descended on the pitch Porto took their foot off the accelerator and Naval began to cause more danger but the champions never looked in serious danger of relinquishing their lead.
The win gives Porto a three-point cushion at the top of the table, at least until tonight when Braga host Leiria.
Next Friday Porto host Beira-Mar in a match that will see the return of Porto legend Mario Jardel, while Naval travel to Belenenses.
