Taborda leaves Naval for Romania

Goalkeeper loses patience after stalled contract talks

Naval have lost their first choice goalkeeper as Pedro Taborda has left the Portuguese side and signed for Politehnica Timisoara.

The 29-year-old shot stopper was available on a free transfer and signed a three-year deal with the Romanian outfit.

Taborda, who has been with the club since 2004, feels he was forced into the move with the Figueira da Foz club stalling on his new contract.

“This is the end of an association which started back in 2004/05. I wanted to continue with Naval, but time was going by and nothing was happening. I couldn’t wait any longer for a response,” explained the goalkeeper.

The move also comes in light of the fact that Naval signed Jorge Batista from Leixoes last week on a two-year deal.

Taborda will encounter two familiar faces at the Romanian club in ex-Rio Ave players Milhazes and Cadu. It will be Taborda’s first foray outside of Portugal as the net minder had previous spells with Freamunde, FC Porto, Vizela and Ermesinde.
