Naval sack coach Fernando Chalo
Poor start spells end for tactician
Naval have reacted fast to the poor start made by the team by sacking coach Fernando Chalo immediately after the 3-0 defeat by Benfica over the weekend.
The team have accumulated only two points thus far and have not won a league game since 4 March last season. Even worse, the team have not won a home game since 16 December 2006.
Club president Aprigio Santos made a brief statement saying, “I have the idea and the certainty that this squad has more value than it has been showing.”
Assistant coach Fernando Mira takes over on a temporary basis until a replacement is contracted.
With just four matches played in the new season, Chalo becomes the league’s third coaching casualty after the sacking of Fernando Santos and Manuel Machado at Benfica and Academica respectively.
