Uisses Morais appointed new Naval coach

Former Maritimo coach takes over bottom-placed club

Naval 1 de Maio have unveiled their new coach, appointing Uisses Morais as the man to be Fernndo Chalo’s successor.

Morais begins his second stint with the club. The Figueira da Foz club was where his professional coaching career started thirteen years ago when the team were in the Portuguese lower divisions.

Naval had been without a coach since Chalo’s dismissal early in September, and it was believed the club had settled terms with another former coach, Rogerio Goncalves. But talks broke down and Goncalves decided to remain with Beira-Mar.

An emotional Morais was excited to be back at the club that launched his career. “I feel extremely happy and grateful! Certain feelings surpass our profession,” said the coach who was at Maritimo last season.

“I ask everyone to give a little more to Naval. Like this, we will manage to achieve our objectives. I believe in this project, in the people involved, the players and the coaching staff.

“But even more so in my capabilities. Despite coming here in circumstances that are far from ideal, I am certain that I will be happy.”

Naval currently occupy last place in the table with just two points to show for from six matches.

“I feel happy taking on difficult challenges. I have had many in my long career and I have managed to win them. I am only here because everyone believes that I am the right person to solve the club’s problems,” concluded Morais.
