Pacos plunge further into relegation trouble
Pacos de Ferreira 1-2 Belenenses
Belenenses made it three wins in their last four matches as the club earned a 2-1 away win to Pacos de Ferreira. The win catapults the Lisbon club up to 6th spot on 32 points, although it is soon to be docked six points due to the guilty verdict in the Meyong case.
As for Pacos, the team has earned only one point in their last five matches as relegation clouds gather around the Mata Real.
Pacos started the match on the right foot, scoring first in the 10th minute when William headed in a Chico Silva free kick at the far post. The goal increased the confidence levels of the home side who attacked incessantly in search of a second goal.
But Pacos got careless in the 20th minute as Roversio took down Roncatto in the box and the referee had no choice but to award a penalty and send off the defender. Ze Pedro did the honours from the spot kick to put the Blues level.
It was now the visitors turn to dominate play as the goal injected life into their attack, although Pacos came close in the 37th minute as Wesley clanked his effort off the post.
Bad luck struck for the home side just before the break as Roncatto’s blast from outside the box crashed against the crossbar, hit goalkeeper Pecanha in the back and rolled into his the net to give Belenenses a 2-1 lead.
The visitors survived an onslaught from ten-man Pacos in the second half, but try as they might the hosts were unable to find an equaliser.
